NETKEEPER 5.1 - 7 Oct 2026 (tray icon added later the same night; version number unchanged)
============================
NEW TRAY ICON: the small icon by the clock (and in the hidden-icons flyout) is now the NETKEEPER logo - the paper tile with the
ink gauge - instead of the blue Windows "i". It is drawn by the script itself, so the zip has no extra file.
- Only NETKEEPER.ps1 changed: a new function New-TrayIcon and one line that uses it. If drawing the icon ever fails, the
  plain Windows icon is used again, so the widget still starts.
- The tooltip over the icon still reads "NETKEEPER 5.1" (the name and the version number).
- 4.7 is not changed. If you still run 4.7 you will still see the old icon; start 5.1 to see the new one.

CHECKED / NOT TESTED (5.1 icon)
- Checked: the icon was drawn on its own and looked right at 16, 24, 32 and 64 pixels on a dark and a light strip.
  PowerShell parser: no errors.
- NOT tested: starting the widget itself (so your real settings and history were not touched). Please check the tray.

VERSION NUMBER ONLY otherwise: 5.1 is the same as 5.0, 4.9, 4.8 and 4.7 apart from this icon, so PC and Android carry the same number.
- Android 5.1: the top of Simple, Dashboard and Totals stays in place and only the list scrolls.

GO BACK: NETKEEPER v5.0, v4.9, v4.8 and v4.7 folders are untouched (v5.0 has the old blue icon).

------------------------------------------------------------
NETKEEPER 5.0  -  7 Oct 2026
============================
VERSION NUMBER ONLY on the PC. 5.0 is the same as 4.9, 4.8 and 4.7, so PC and Android carry the same number.
- Android 5.0 is the one that changed: Settings is easier to read (rows in panels with divider lines, visible dropdown
  boxes, ON / OFF words beside switches) plus a few small text fixes.
- Only NETKEEPER.ps1 changed: the version label ($AppVersion) and the first comment line. 4.9, 4.8 and 4.7 are left as they were.

CHECKED / NOT TESTED (5.0)
- Checked: PowerShell parser (no errors). The only differences from 4.9's NETKEEPER.ps1 are the two version lines.
- NOT tested: launching the widget. It was not started, so your real settings and history were not touched.

GO BACK TO 4.9 / 4.8 / 4.7: those folders are untouched.

------------------------------------------------------------
NETKEEPER 4.9  -  7 Oct 2026
============================
VERSION NUMBER ONLY on the PC. 4.9 is the same as 4.8 and 4.7, so PC and Android carry the same number again.
- Android 4.9 is the one that changed: it now has the PC's three looks (E-ink, E-ink inverted, Colour dark), counted bars,
  and the Dashboard and Totals views, as well as the gauge status-bar icon from 4.8.
- Only NETKEEPER.ps1 changed: the version label ($AppVersion) and the first comment line. 4.8 and 4.7 are left as they were.

CHECKED / NOT TESTED (4.9)
- Checked: PowerShell parser (no errors). The only differences from 4.8's NETKEEPER.ps1 are the two version lines.
- NOT tested: launching the widget. It was not started, so your real settings and history were not touched.

GO BACK TO 4.8 / 4.7: those folders are untouched.

------------------------------------------------------------
NETKEEPER 4.8  -  7 Oct 2026
============================
VERSION NUMBER ONLY on the PC. 4.8 is the same as 4.7, so PC and Android carry the same number again.
- Android 4.8 is the one that changed: its status-bar icon now fills up like the logo's gauge as your daily data is used
  (empty, 25, 50, 75 and full). The PC has no notification-bar icon, so nothing to add here.
- Only NETKEEPER.ps1 changed: the version label ($AppVersion) and the first comment line. 4.7 is left exactly as it was.

CHECKED / NOT TESTED (4.8)
- Checked: PowerShell parser (no errors). The only differences from 4.7's NETKEEPER.ps1 are the two version lines.
- NOT tested: launching the widget. It was not started, so your real settings and history were not touched.

GO BACK TO 4.7
- NETKEEPER v4.7 folder is untouched. Settings and history in %APPDATA%\NETKEEPER are shared between versions.

------------------------------------------------------------
NETKEEPER 4.7  -  5 Oct 2026
============================
NEW "TOTALS" VIEW: how much data one app (or the whole PC) has used, by time frame
- Switch to it three ways: right-click > "Totals view (per app, per day)", the "totals >" link at the top right of the
  Dashboard, or Settings > View. A "< back" link at its top right returns to the view you came from.
- Pick the app in the box at the top (for example Codex, or "All apps (whole PC)"), or click any app in the list below.
- Three time frames (buttons at the top right):
    Since 06:00 from the daily reset until now (the 06:00 follows your Reset time in Settings)
    Last day the whole day before, reset to reset (06:00 yesterday to 06:00 today)
    7 days today and the 6 days before
- Shows the big total, download / upload, and for one app its share of the whole PC. A bar chart shows each of the last 7
  days for the chosen app; the days in your time frame are drawn strong. The list shows the biggest apps in the frame.
- The totals come from a new small daily log, usage-days.json in %APPDATA%\NETKEEPER (35 days, a few KB per day). It is its own
  file, so going back to 4.6/4.5/4.4/4.3 does not touch it. Settings added to config.json: UsageApp, UsageFrame.
- The log starts when you first run 4.7. Today is filled in from the last 26 hours the widget already knew; earlier days
  are empty ("-") until they have happened. A day that is only partly counted is marked * (the tooltip says from when).
- A manual "Reset used data now" does not split a day in the Totals view: a day is always reset to reset.
- Per-app figures need NETKEEPER to run as administrator (same as before) and are TCP traffic only, so apps add up to less
  than the whole-PC total. The whole-PC total counts everything on the physical adapters.
- Nothing else changed from 4.6 (looks, bars, bold numbers, alerts, hidden start). Only NETKEEPER.ps1 changed (version 4.7).
  4.6, 4.5, 4.4 and 4.3 are left as they were.

CHECKED / NOT TESTED (4.7)
- Checked here: PowerShell parser (no errors).
- Rendered from the real code with made-up data (7 days, Codex / Chrome / Store) in a throwaway data folder, not your real
  settings: Totals view in white and black e-ink with all three time frames, one app picked, and the Dashboard link
  (see the preview folder). The numbers in those pictures are invented.
- Counting tested with the real sampling code: a day entry is created, grows, and is saved to usage-days.json.
- NOT yet run with the live widget: clicking the buttons, the app box and the "totals >" / "< back" links, the day rolling
  over at 06:00, and per-app totals as administrator (needs the UAC prompt). Android has no Totals view yet.

NETKEEPER 4.6  -  4 Oct 2026
============================
SMOOTH LOOK CHANGE, NO FLASHING CONSOLE WINDOW (made after "the console flash is annoying")
- Right-click > "Look: ..." no longer closes the widget and waits. The widget stays on screen; the new copy starts hidden
  in the background, appears on the exact same spot with a short fade-in (0.35 s) and the old one fades out at the same time.
  If the new copy cannot start within 30 seconds, the old widget simply stays and says so; the new look is saved either way.
- The big console window that flashed every time one NETKEEPER started another is gone:
    look change and "Restart as admin" now start the new copy hidden from the first moment.
    NEW Start-NETKEEPER.vbs starts NETKEEPER with no console window at all. Double-click this one.
    Start-NETKEEPER.cmd                 now just calls the .vbs (a .cmd file always shows its own console for a moment;
                                        double-click the .vbs instead to avoid even that).
    "Start with Windows" now starts through the .vbs too (when the .vbs is next to NETKEEPER.ps1), so there is
                                        no flash at logon. Switch "Start with Windows" off and on once in 4.6 to use it.
- A restarted copy no longer repeats the alert balloons for levels you already passed (50 / 75 / 90 / 100% and "app pulling data"):
  for the first 12 seconds it only notes them.
- Nothing else changed from 4.5 (looks, bars, bold numbers, counting, settings, alerts).
- Only NETKEEPER.ps1, Start-NETKEEPER.cmd and the new Start-NETKEEPER.vbs changed (version 4.6). 4.5, 4.4 and 4.3 are left as they were.

CHECKED / NOT TESTED (4.6)
- Checked here: PowerShell parser (no errors).
- Measured on this PC: the old way (v4.5 look change and the old .cmd) made 2 console windows visible about 0.3 s after
  starting; the new hidden start made 0, both for the look-change method and for the .vbs launcher (also from a folder with
  spaces in its name).
- Tested with a small stand-in program using the same signal-and-fade code: the new copy rendered about 0.5 s after launch,
  signalled the old one, the two faded across each other (0.35 s), the old closed, and no console window appeared.
- NOT yet run with the real widget: please try right-click > "Look: ..." and watch for the crossfade. Not tested at all:
  the admin restart with the hidden window (needs the Windows UAC prompt) and the new "Start with Windows" start through the .vbs.
  If autostart does not start NETKEEPER after a restart, switch it off and on again in the menu, or tell me.
NETKEEPER 4.5  -  4 Oct 2026
============================
WHITE E-INK LOOK AS THE MAIN LOOK, plus two more looks you can switch to
- Right-click the widget > "Look: E-ink white" / "Look: E-ink black" / "Look: colourful dark".
    E-ink white (default) light grey screen, soft black text, greys only. Mono, no colours.
    E-ink black the opposite: light grey text on a dark grey screen, greys only.
    Colourful dark the look of 4.3: blue accents, and the bar goes green > yellow > orange > red.
- Choosing a look restarts NETKEEPER by itself (about 2 seconds). Your position, settings and usage history are kept.
  The choice is remembered (Theme in config.json: Ink / InkInv / Dark).
- Every window follows the chosen look: widget views, Settings, Apps, connections, messages and the right-click menu.

PROGRESS BARS ARE ROWS OF VERTICAL LINES (all three looks)
- Standard and Simple: 30 lines. Mini bar: 20 lines. Dashboard: 40 lines. One line = one slice of your daily allowance
  (for a 3 GB day, 30 lines = 100 MB per line). Used lines are dark/light ink, unused lines are the empty colour.
- In the two e-ink looks the lines never change colour. In "colourful dark" the lines take the bar colour
  (green, yellow from 50%, orange from 75%, red from 90%) as before.

BOLD NUMBERS
- Standard view: "Since 06:00 1.07 GB / 3.0 GB" stays on one line, with the used and limit numbers bold and bigger (16 px).
- Simple view: in "left of your 3.0 GB today" the 3.0 GB is bold, bigger and strong.
- Dashboard: in the first tile, "80% of 3.0 GB", the allowance is bold, bigger and strong.

SMALL WORDING CHANGES (no more colour names in the text)
- Apps window: "Pause only - Windows update" rows are italic (they were yellow only).
- 24 h chart label: "strong bars = since reset".

HOW IT IS BUILT (for later work)
- Every colour in NETKEEPER.ps1 is now a ROLE written as @@NAME@@ (for example @@TEXT@@, @@PANEL@@, @@RED@@).
  The palettes ("looks" block near the middle of the file) turn each role into a real colour, so a new look is one new palette.
- Only NETKEEPER.ps1 changed (version 4.5). 4.4 (white e-ink only) and 4.3 (colourful only) are left as they were in their
  folders. Settings and history are shared (%APPDATA%\NETKEEPER), so you can go back any time.

CHECKED / NOT TESTED (4.5)
- Checked here: PowerShell parser (no errors); no colour is left written directly in the file; every role is defined in all
  three palettes; the colour system is defined before anything uses it.
- Rendered from the real layout and code with sample numbers, in all three looks: Standard, Simple, Mini bar and Dashboard
  at 42%, 80% and 100%, and a dialog with buttons, checkbox and text box. All were readable.
- NOT yet run as the live widget on Windows. Please test: right-click > each "Look:" item (the widget should close and come
  back by itself), then open Settings, the Apps window and About in each look and check that every word is readable.
  If restarting does not work for you, close the widget and start Start-NETKEEPER.cmd yourself; the new look is already saved.
NETKEEPER 4.3  -  4 Oct 2026
============================
SIMPLE VIEW: LEFT / USED SWITCH (same idea as Android 0.5)
- Top right of the Simple view there is a blue "SHOWING: LEFT" / "SHOWING: USED" label.
  Click it (or click the big number) to flip the big number between data LEFT and data USED.
- USED shows "used of your X GB today" under it; if you are over the allowance it turns red and says how far over.
- The choice is remembered (ShowUsed in config.json). Counting, alerts and the other views are unchanged.
- NETKEEPER(TM) trade mark sign added: on every view header, the title bar of the apps windows, "About", the tray menu
  (Show / Exit) and the alert titles. Folder, firewall rule, autostart and task names stay plain NETKEEPER.
- Only NETKEEPER.ps1 changed (version 4.3).

NOT TESTED (4.3)
- Checked with the PowerShell parser (no errors). Not run on Windows: please click the label in Simple view.
  To go back, start 4.2 from the "NETKEEPER v4.2" folder.

NETKEEPER 4.2  -  4 Oct 2026
============================
TRAY ICON MENU (the NETKEEPER icon in the corner of the taskbar, by the clock)
- Right-click the icon:
    Show NETKEEPER brings the widget back to the front (and back on screen)
    Reset used data now (new allowance)... the same reset as in the widget menu and Settings (asks first)
    Undo reset (made at HH:mm) only shown while a manual reset is in effect
    Exit NETKEEPER closes NETKEEPER (settings and history are saved as usual)
- Double-clicking the icon still shows the widget, and clicking an alert balloon still opens the apps list.
- Nothing else changed from 4.1.

NOT TESTED (4.2)
- Not run on Windows and not checked with the PowerShell parser (no PowerShell here).
  Please try all four menu items once. To go back, close it and start 4.1 from the "NETKEEPER v4.1" folder.

NETKEEPER 4.1  -  3 Oct 2026
============================
RESET USED DATA (new allowance before the normal reset time)
- Right-click > "Reset used data now (new allowance)..." asks once, then counts from zero.
- Same button in Settings, section 1: "Reset used data now".
- The normal daily reset time is unchanged; "resets at" / "starts again at" still show it.
- Nothing is deleted: the 24 h chart keeps all history, and the yellow line moves to your reset.
- Right-click > "Undo reset (made at HH:mm)" appears until the next normal reset, in case it was pressed by mistake.
- The 50/75/90/100% warnings start again for the new period.
- Stored as ManualResetMinute in config.json (0 = not used).

NOT TESTED (4.1)
- Checked here: PowerShell parser (no errors), the Settings layout XML, and the reset-time logic
  (manual reset in effect, ignored once the normal reset passes, ignored if in the future).
- Not yet run on Windows: the menu items, the Settings button, the confirmation windows.

v4.0 is left as it was in the "NETKEEPER v4" folder. Settings and history are shared
(%APPDATA%\NETKEEPER), so you can go back to 4.0 by starting it from the old folder.

NETKEEPER 4.0  (previously NetWatch v3)  -  2 Oct 2026
=====================================================
Start it with Start-NETKEEPER.cmd. Close the old NetWatch widget first (right-click > Exit);
NETKEEPER will tell you if the old one is still running.

RENAME
- All visible names now say NETKEEPER (widget, windows, tray, alerts, firewall rules).
- The name lives in one line at the top of NETKEEPER.ps1 ($AppName), so a future rename is one change.
- First start copies your settings and usage history from %APPDATA%\NetWatch to %APPDATA%\NETKEEPER.
  The old folder is left untouched.
- "Start with Windows": if the old NetWatch was set to start with Windows, NETKEEPER takes that over
  and removes the old entry, so the old copy no longer starts at logon.
- Firewall blocks made by the old NetWatch are still shown as BLOCKED and are removed by
  "Remove all NETKEEPER blocks". New blocks are named "NETKEEPER block <app>".

VIEWS (right-click > Mini bar / Simple / Standard / Dashboard, or Settings > "How big should it be?")
- Mini bar: one thin line showing % used, colour bar, data left and current speed. Hover for details.
- Simple (new, 2 Oct): for anyone who does not want numbers. Big "how much is left", colour bar,
  one plain sentence ("All good", "X is pulling data right now", "Almost gone"), up to 3 things
  using data now with one big Stop/Pause button each, and when the allowance starts again.
  Parts of Windows are never listed here, so there is nothing unsafe to press.
- Standard: the existing widget, unchanged.
- Dashboard: tiles for used / left / time to reset, colour bar, speed, 24-hour chart in 15-minute bars
  (bright = since the daily reset, yellow dashed line = reset time) and the top 8 apps since reset.
- The chosen view is remembered.

APPS INSTEAD OF PROCESSES, AND "SAFE TO END?"
- Processes are grouped under the app's real name from the program file
  (e.g. "Google Chrome" instead of a dozen "chrome" entries).
- Windows service hosts show the service name people know (e.g. "Windows Update").
- Every app is labelled:
    Yes - app ordinary program, End is allowed
    Yes - app service a program's own background service (e.g. a vendor updater)
    Pause only - Windows update Windows Update / Delivery Optimization / BITS / Store installs:
                                 can be paused, Windows restarts it later by itself
    No - part of Windows NETKEEPER will not end, stop or block it
- Widget buttons follow the label: End / Pause / Win (greyed out).
- Apps window: new SAFE TO END? and PROCESSES columns; Windows rows grey, Windows-update rows yellow.
- Behaviour change: stopping Windows services other than the update/download ones is no longer offered
  (before, any service could be stopped after a warning).
- History note: usage collected before this version is stored under the old process names, so for up to
  ~26 hours some apps can appear twice (old name and new name) until the old entries age out.

OTHER
- Right-click > About NETKEEPER 4.0 shows the version and where settings are kept.

NOT TESTED
- Checked here: script syntax (PowerShell parser), all window layouts (XAML) and the
  safe-to-end rules on sample processes.
- Not yet run on Windows: the windows themselves, the settings/autostart/firewall migration,
  the friendly names on real processes. Please test before giving it to anyone else.
